FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Gallery d’Arte,
547 West 27th Street, Suite 336, NY City is
pleased to announce @Y-# GRAFFITI
! by Yueyin Hu, co-curated by Somin Lee and Rachel Yejee
Lee. The show will run from June 23-July 2, 2016, with opening receptions on
Thursday, June 23 and June 30 from 6-8pm.
Featuring select
digitally-altered prints and screen displays, the exhibition explores the
interactivity and connectivity that is fostered by street art, the photograph,
and its indexicality. The show marks Hu’s first solo exhibition with Gallery
d’Arte.
Hu is a New York based Chinese artist with tendencies toward
illustration and multi-media platforms. In 2015, she graduated from Parsons the
New School for Design with master’s degrees in Design and Technology, following
her studies at the Beijing Institute of Technology where she received a
bachelor’s degree in Visual Communications in 2012. As a result, her visual
language is informed by experimental, interdisciplinary, and often
technologically-based approaches, along with influences from traditional Chinese
ink culture.
This exhibition presents “Emancipation of the Street,” a
projection mapping installation that highlights the notion of experiential
experience; the projected animations charting the proliferation of graffiti
culture in Manhattan. The exhibition also presents “Delusion,” a series of
interactive photographs capturing New York City, by means which the viewer takes
part in the processes of art-making; the interactive waves responding to each
motion of the beholder, transforming the otherwise static images into dynamic
manifestations of ambivalence and illusion. @Y-# GRAFFITI ! then
strives to empower its audience, bringing the viewer to partake in the
innovations of videography, image processing, and graffiti alike.
Hu is
currently part of the Art Students League of New York Residency Artist Program
(2016), following her activities at the NYC Media Lab Annual Summit Tech Show,
and the LIQUID Room International Art Show in 2015. This year her work was
included in the LIQUID Room Labyrinth Show, Fantastic Art China’s International
Creative Festival, the group show “ULTRAMODERN” with AZART Gallery, and held her
first solo show “Off the Wall” with Gateway Art Center. Hu has also published an
arts textbook, “Decomposition & Reorganization – The Form of Space” (2016),
as the Chief Editor of China Youth Publishing Group.
