Gallery d’Arte, 547 West
27th Street, Suite 518 New York City proudly presents
Wheiza Kim: Dialogue with Nature-Message
from the Wind. The Solo Exhibition will run from January 12-23,
2016 with an Opening Reception on Thursday, January 14th from
5-8PM.
Wheiza Kim lives in the woods near the ocean
where the wind drifts around. While relaxing, she can hear the whistle of the
wind from the ocean and the woods around her house. The wind tells her stories
about the unknown world of distance. With a low-pitched whistling sound, the
woods convey the way that human lives are beautiful but also painful and how
everything in the world is transient. Kim says “My intention is to decipher ‘the
message of the universe delivered by the wind’ which has been engraved in wood
grains like some secret codes and then visualize it”.
Kim creates
artworks reflecting human life and mind in the order of Yin and Yang based on
the philosophy of Chi (energy). Kim also conveys the meaning of impermanence
delivered by the wind that all of conditional existence without exception is an
illusion that fluctuates according to conditions and relationships, or a state
of mind that interprets the given situation. Therefore, Kim produces art that is
analogous to these varying and uncertain stages by using mirrors, which break
away from the general flat-surface canvas style.
Through this exhibition
Kim represents a uniquely shaped canvas into the three dimensional space, making
for works of art that are literally as well as metaphorically shelters, using
various patterns and geometric compositions. Kim uses a natural wooden panel as
a canvas, and places mirrors at different angles on the surface, and in back of
the wooden panel. In this way, Kim holds landscapes and stories in one work and
invites viewers to observe inside and outside of the artwork as one continuous
movement in which outer and inner spaces are united. Another words, the infinite
has merged with the introspective, like the visual effect of “Mobius Loops”.
