뉴욕공립도서관은 세계의 유수한 귀중본 도서들이 비치된 희귀본 콜렉션이 있습니다. 구텐베르크의 금속활자 인쇄 성경을 비롯 크리스토퍼 콜럼버스의 서간문 등 진귀한 자료들이 수장되어 있습니다. 알재단(대표 이숙)은 대중 미술관 투어의 하나로 귀중본 콜렉션의 삽화책들을 감상하고자 합니다. 
 

15세기 독일에서 만들어진 목판 기도서, 금속활자 기도서 및 성서, 역사책 등을 비롯해서 16-17세기 도서수집가를 위한 호화장정본, 그리고 18세기부터 등장하는 삽화가 들어간 유명 소설책, 시집, 지도서 등과 함께 19-20세기 명성이 확립된 화가 내지는 삽화가, 판화가 등이 제작했던 주요 출판물을 알재단 그룹을 위해 마련된 조용한 강의실에서 꼼꼼히 살펴보게 됩니다. 전문연구자에게만 공개되는 귀중한 작품들을 전시가 아닌 특별방문을 통해 일반대중에게 제공하는 희귀본 콜렉션 방문은알재단 변경희 교수님의 주선과 담당 큐레이터의 배려로 마련되었으니 이런 소중한 기회를 놓치지 않기를 바랍니다. 

방문당일 작품의 보존상태와 전시출품 등의 관계로 몇 점 변동사항이 있을 수 있겠지만 대체로 다음과 같은 삽화책을 중심으로 감상하고자 합니다. 많은 참여 부탁드립니다.
