Encounters</span><span style='font-family: "ArialMT"; font-size: 12pt;'>, a solo 
exhibition of recent works by Hyunsun Park. This show will run from June 
1</span><span style='font-family: "ArialMT"; font-size: 8pt; vertical-align: 6pt;'>st 
</span><span style='font-family: "ArialMT"; font-size: 12pt;'>-7</span><span style='font-family: "ArialMT"; font-size: 8pt; vertical-align: 6pt;'>th</span><span style='font-family: "ArialMT"; font-size: 12pt;'>, 2016 with an opening reception 
on Thursday of June 2</span><span style='font-family: "ArialMT"; font-size: 8pt; vertical-align: 6pt;'>nd 
</span><span style='font-family: "ArialMT"; font-size: 12pt;'>from 6 to 8 pm. 
</span></p>
<p style="margin: 0px 0px 10px; text-align: justify; line-height: 1.3em;"><span style='font-family: "ArialMT"; font-size: 12pt;'>Her paintings of minimalist 
geometry are defined by the pure shape and color in her art. The viewer is drawn 
to her detailed yet compelling use of transparent surface color and deep 
submerged color below. Using such unique media as acrylic clear gel and paint, 
Hyunsun builds her compositions layer upon layer in an additive process leading 
to natural textured and voluminous thickness. Her works offer a stabilizing 
principle of organization on the wood panel. </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0px 0px 10px; text-align: justify; line-height: 1.3em;"><span style='font-family: "ArialMT"; font-size: 12pt;'>She creates forms that make one 
feel like they are swimming or reclining in a frame of their own little world. 
She uses straight lines and monotonous surfaces to create a frame that 
encompasses </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0px 0px 10px; text-align: justify; line-height: 1.3em;"><span style='font-family: "ArialMT"; font-size: 12pt;'>curved lines and streamline, 
which represent the combination of Art Deco and Art Nouveau style 
simultaneously. Her works of art pursuing simplicity and basicality seems to 
maintain a magnetic attraction. </span></p>
<p style="margin: 0px 0px 10px; text-align: justify; line-height: 1.3em;"><span style='font-family: "ArialMT"; font-size: 12pt;'>Hyunsun also represents 
philosophical or metaphorical feelings through the aesthetic elements such as 
the sophistication and restrained beauty of the simple. With each individual 
work, she undertakes a nuanced investigation of her personal feelings as well as 
a contemplation of life’s intense ideals and ambiguities. She has created an 
artistic vocabulary characterized by muted color and rectilinear abstract forms.

in New York City. She graduated from Seoul Art High School and received her BFA 
recently at the School of Visual Art. She currently lives in New York City and 
devotes most of her time to her work in Fine Arts since early years. </span></p>
