Prof. Rhee Jieun | Myungji University
Professor Rhee Jieun received her M.A. in Western Painting from Seoul National University, before attending Boston University, where she received a Ph.D. in Art History. She is a professor of Art History at Myongji University in Seoul, Korea, who is currently in Boston as a 2019-2020 Faculty Fellow of the Newhouse Center for the Humanities at Wellesley College.

Prof. Lee Ihnbum | Sangmyung University
Professor Lee Ihnbum attended Hongik University’s Painting and Fine Arts departments, where he received both his M.A. and Ph.D. He is currently director of Hongji Art Theory Institute at Sangmyung University.

About the Lecture

AHL Foundation, a non-profit group supporting artists, will host its first public lecture of the year at its office on February 19th at 6:00 pm with Prof. Lee Ihnbum (Sangmyung University) and Prof. Rhee Jieun (Myongji University). The topic of the lecture is ‘Searching for Korean Contemporary Art within the Global Art Scene,’ which will examine the direction, identity, and status of the Korean contemporary art scene. The panel will begin with a lecture by Professor Rhee Jieun titled, “Korean Contemporary Art: Community, Tradition, and Identity”, followed by a lecture from Professor Lee Ihnbum titled, “Why New York in Korean ‘Misul’ (Art): A Few Short Stories about the Place of Modern Art in Korea" and reactions and responses from the two professors. The floor will then open to the audience for a question and answer session, before wrapping up with an engaging networking session. The lecture is free but limited to just 30 people.

비영리 미술인 지원단체 알재단 (AHL Foundation 대표 이숙녀)에서 상명대 이인범, 명지대 이지은 교수를 연사로 초청하여 2020년 2월 19일 오후 6시 알재단에서 첫 공개 강의를 개최합니다. <세계 미술 지형도 속의 한국 현대 미술>이라는 주제 아래 세계 속에서 한국 현대미술의 흐름과 정체성, 추이를 살펴 볼 예정입니다. 이지은 교수의 <한국의 동시대 미술: 커뮤니티, 전통, 정체성> 강연을 시작으로 이인범교수의 강연 <왜 한국 ‘미술(misul)’에서 뉴욕인가? : 한국 현대 미술의 장소에 대한 몇가지 단상들>이 이어집니다. 이후 자유 토론 및 청중과의 질의 응답 시간 외에 네트워킹 시간도 마련하여 풍부한 대화의 장이 펼쳐질 것으로 기대가 됩니다. 강연은 무료이며 30명 선착순 접수 마감입니다.
